This is where you can find others who are working on similar topics, make new friends, and collaborate on your papers. It dawned on me after our meeting today that you might well want to have anyone or everyone take a look at your drafts, so strictly speaking no need really to be working on the same topic. In the comments, just list your name, topic, email address, and we'll see how it goes. Cheers, MC

Office hours next week

Please check your email for expanded office hours next week. Pay particular attention to the word "appointment". One of the advantages of using email is to prevent you from having to wait in line and to give me the chance to prepare for our conversation.

Settings, privacy

I've set this up to make us as invisible as possible. Search engines can't find us; we are absent from blogspot's blogroll. My lecture course blog (history439blogdotblogspotdotcom) has been up and running for a few weeks now and no one but participants in the class seems to have found us. So I think we can speak to one another in relative privacy.

Let's get this thing rolling

I'm trying course blogs this term experimentally. This one will serve several purposes. The most important is to provide you a space in which you can interact, ask questions, see if anyone is working on similar problems. The second is to serve as a link between what comes up in your inquiries over the week and the resources available on learn@uw or elsewhere. If you want suggestions of further reading, or to alert others to something you have found, this is the place to do it. The third reason that I can think of is to answer questions of general interest. Email will remain the best place for housekeeping chores or something you'd prefer to keep between us, but anything general I hope you will ask or post here.
